Targeted Frass

Targeted Frass

Why Choose Our Targeted Frass for Your Garden?

Introduction to Targeted Frass

Our Targeted Frass is uniquely designed for gardeners who seek sustainable, eco-friendly, and effective plant growth products. By focusing on the specific needs of gardeners, we have created a superior product that promotes strong and healthy plant growth as well as high-quality food and flowers.

Mealworm Diet and Nutrient Content

One key aspect that sets our Targeted Frass apart is the carefully crafted, diverse diet for our mealworms. This diet includes grains, greens, proteins, and root vegetables. By diversifying their diet, we have increased the diversity of beneficial microbes present in the frass as well as the amount of bio-available macronutrients and micronutrients. This ensures that our mealworms produce the best frass specifically for gardeners and their plants.

Fine, Dry, and Virtually Odorless

Our Targeted Frass has a fine, dry, sandy texture and is virtually odorless. We hand-sift the frass multiple times to ensure our customers receive more frass and less bedding for their money. This fine texture allows for easy mixing into soil or use in compost teas. You also get more frass for your money.

Chitin: A Powerful Defense Mechanism

Our frass contains chitin, a naturally occurring polymer found in the broken-down exoskeletons of mealworms. Chitin exposure triggers plants' defense systems, fortifying cell walls, building up defenses in roots, and releasing natural insect toxins. This immune response helps plants defend against pathogens, pests, and environmental stress.

Sustainable Packaging

Sustainability is at the core of GrassMar's values. We have sourced sustainable packaging materials from US companies, using 100% recycled paper bags, plant-based cello bags, and natural twine. All our packaging is home compostable, further showcasing our commitment to the environment.

Product Size

Our 1 lb bag of Targeted Frass contains approximately 5 cups, providing gardeners with a generous supply for their plant care needs.

By choosing our Targeted Frass, you'll be nurturing your garden with a sustainable, effective, and eco-friendly product, designed specifically for the needs of gardeners and their plants.

Suggested Uses

In Conjunction with Other Amendments/Fertilizers

We endorse a diverse approach to gardening methods, using a variety of natural soil amendments to foster a robust and healthy soil ecosystem. With this goal in mind, we recommend the following application guidelines for our frass:

  • Pre-Mix: Blend ¼ cup of frass per 15-gallon container or 4 square feet of raised bed into the top 6 inches of soil.
  • Transplanting: Add a pinch or two of frass into the planting hole.
  • Top Dress: Combine approximately 1 teaspoon of frass with the soil around the plant stem, then water thoroughly. Repeat every 10-14 days.
  • Compost Tea: Mix 1 tablespoon of frass per 1 gallon of dechlorinated water. Shake well, aerate, and let sit for about an hour before watering plants around the root zone. Apply every 10-14 days.
  • Foliar Spray: Strain the compost tea and use as a foliar spray. Apply within 24 hours, avoiding direct sunlight.

As a Stand-Alone Product

Our Targeted Frass is designed to support a thriving garden through sustainable and effective methods. To use our frass as a stand-alone product:

  • Garden Beds: Mix 2.5 pounds of Targeted Frass per 100 square feet into the top layer of soil for even distribution and to promote healthy plant growth.
  • Containers: For container plants, blend 1/2 tablespoon of Targeted Frass per gallon of container size into the potting mix, providing essential nutrients for flourishing plants.

Incorporating our frass into your gardening routine nurtures a robust and healthy soil ecosystem, allowing your plants to thrive. Happy gardening!

Please note: These guidelines are general, and your soil conditions may necessitate different amounts.
